Important information about Alzheimer Scotland’s Purple Alert

Posted on:

Following our recent communication about Purple Alert, we have taken time to carry out an internal review of the app, guided by the feedback we received through the survey.

Whilst we recognise the importance of resources like Purple Alert, Alzheimer Scotland has made the difficult decision to exit this initiative; a decision that was not made lightly. This decision is multifaceted and does not diminish the value or positive impact Purple Alert has had over recent years. However, during this time new technologies have developed, and other forms of social media use have become common place, so much so that we have seen a significant decline in the use and number of people signing up to Purple Alert.

We understand that this news will be disappointing to many who have used Purple Alert with their families over the years, and we’d like to express our gratitude for being part of this community.

Please be assured that we are still here to support you. We remain committed to working with our partners such as Police Scotland and advocating for initiatives like the Herbert Protocol, a national scheme that encourages families to compile vital information for the police in case a loved one with dementia goes missing.

We encourage you to consider the following alternative services to support the safety and well-being of your loved ones:

  • Fill in a Herbert Protocol Form here
  • Browse our catalogue of tried and tested products on ADAM by visiting the website here www.meetadam.org

We want to confirm that we will take all necessary steps to ensure that your data is securely deleted following the closure of Purple Alert. The app will be unavailable from the 9th of September 2024, after which you can delete it from your phone or device. However, please note that we will retain a copy of the database, and upon request, we can provide you with access to your data for up to 6 months before it is permanently deleted.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions or would like any support, please don’t hesitate to contact Fiona Corner by emailing [email protected]
