    It's estimated 50 million visits to the GP are made every year for minor ailments such as coughs and colds, mild eczema and athlete's foot.

    Urgent (Same Day) Appointments

    Any patient who requires medical advice and feels unable to wait for the first available bookable appointment, should telephone the practice at 8.00am.

    You will be asked a series of questions to ascertain the reason(s) you require to be seen. Please give as much information as you can, so the doctor can prioritise their calls appropriately.

    Open Surgery

    With the announcement of the spread of Covid-19/Coronavirus in the UK, and the likely increase that will appear in the coming days and weeks, we have considered the safety of our patients coming to the practice. We have taken the decision to suspend Open Surgery from Thursday 12th March 2020.

    This is a temporary measure. Until further notice, if you require an appointment, you should contact the practice on 01674 673400 and a Healthcare Professional will call you back. It helps the GP if you can give the call handler a brief summary of the problem. If you require to be seen you will then be given an allocated time to attend.

    There is now an 'Open Surgery' every morning, with booking in from 8.00am and consultations starting at 8.30am and any patient coming into the surgery before 10.30am will be seen that morning.

    Extended Hours

    Every Tuesday, the practice offers extended hours surgery, between the hours of 6pm and 7pm. This gives patients an opportunity to see either a doctor or a nurse out with normal surgery times.

    Practice Nurses

    In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many ailments and you may be seen more quickly. Our nurses see patients by appointment between 8:00am - 6:00pm and are also availble to give telephone advice.

    Why does the receptionist need to ask what's wrong with me?

    It is not a case of the receptionists being nosey!

    The reception staff are members of the practice team and it has been agreed they should ask patients ‘why they need to be seen’. Reception staff are trained to ask certain questions in order to ensure that you receive:

    • the most appropriate medical care
    • from the most appropriate health professional
    • at the most appropriate time

    General Information

    You may choose to see any doctor. During holidays or in urgent situations however, it will be necessary to see the duty doctor.

    We would suggest that if you need to see a specific GP that is working that day, you check-in prior to 9.45am.

    Please note that your date of birth is used to find your records and will be requested by the receptionist.

    Text Message Reminders

    You can now register to receive information by text message on your phone regarding appointments and health care.

    If you wish to register for this messaging service please fill out our 'Communication Consent form'.

    New Data Protection Regulations from May 2018 (GDPR)

    Under the new data protection regulations introduced from 25th May 2018, we will continue to contact patients via text messages regarding the delivery of care if they have provided consent to do so.

    If practices are sending messages about recommended treatment for the management of a specific health issue, then this is defined as providing appropriate care for patients, not marketing purposes.

    If you would like to opt out of any future contact via text messaging, then please let the surgery know.

    If you anticipate that you may require an examination by the Doctor and feel that you would like a chaperone to be present, please make reception aware at the time of booking your appointment so that this can be arranged. Alternatively bring along a member of your family or friend to your appointment.

    Cancelling an Appointment

    If you are unable to attend for your appointment please tell us in good time so that we are able to offer another patient the use of that appointment.

    5. In Person: Call into your surgery and let the receptionist know in person.

    We can offer your appointment to someone else and therefore help to reduce waiting times.

    As part of our commitment to all our patients we monitor the efficient use of appointments. If a patient regularly fails to attend a booked appointment, the practice reserves the right to remove them and their family from the practice list.
